Teen killed in suspected road rage accident in Plum Grove area

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office released this photo of a car involved in a road rage incident Wednesday night near Plum Grove.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected road rage incident that led to the death of a 17-year-old male, Johnathan Michael Perez.

According to Capt. Ken DeFoor, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, Perez was traveling in a vehicle on CR 3479 B in the Montebello Subdivision near Plum Grove when his vehicle was rammed by another vehicle. The vehicles traveled to CR 3570 at CR 5100 where Perez’s vehicle rolled over several times, killing him.

A second teen in Perez’s vehicle was transported to the hospital and released with minor injuries, DeFoor said.

The incident occurred in the late evening hours of Wednesday, Aug. 22. Investigators were at the scene overnight and the investigation is still under way as of Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office cannot provide information about the other vehicle involved in the incident at this time.

Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller ordered an autopsy on Perez.
