An 18-year-old man, Isaiah Jacob Kopeski, is facing a murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed his mother’s boyfriend, 46-year-old Carl Dee Lueck, around 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at their home on CR 2607 in the Trinity River Lakes Estates subdivision.
The shooting appears to be the result of a domestic conflict that had been ongoing for some time and it escalated Wednesday night, leading to the shooting.
According to statement from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, “Investigator [Darrell] Elliott told him that Lueck, who is reported to be the boyfriend of Kopeski’s mother, had been giving him trouble for quite a while. In order to keep down further trouble, Kopeski told Elliott that he was planning on moving his pickup truck from his residence to the home of his grandparents and was working on the truck when Lueck came out into the front yard and was yelling and charging at Kopeski.”
Authorities say Kopeski grabbed his 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at Lueck, who is said to have yelled, “You don’t have the guts to pull the trigger.” Kopeski pulled the trigger, firing one shot at Lueck, striking him in the upper left chest.

Liberty County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Cody Parrish conducted the inquest and ordered that Lueck’s body be taken to Beaumont for autopsy.
Kopeski was arrested at the scene and placed in the Liberty County Jail on charges of Murder and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. Bond for Kopeski is set at $1 million for the Murder charge and $20,000 for the second charge.
