Two people were killed in the early morning hours of Sunday in Dayton, including a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help a man after he crashed his vehicle into a tree on FM 1008.
The crash started a chain of events that led to a second crash.
Authorities say Luke Austin Whitworth, 24, was traveling alone in an Ford F250 on FM 1008 around 2 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.
A second vehicle passed by the crash and made a U-turn in an attempt to render aid. The vehicle pulled off of the roadway and into the grassy area next to the Ford F250 facing southbound. Both occupants exited and walked over to the Ford F250. While attempting to render aid, a Toyota Tundra traveling northbound struck the couple’s vehicle, killing the female who was standing alongside it.
The woman killed is Eleazar Limon, 43, of Dayton. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 a.m.
Whitworth was flown by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston where he died in surgery.
“The staff at Memorial Hermann did make contact with the father of Luke Whitworth and gave notification of his death. The Harris County Medical Examiners Office will perform an autopsy on Whitworth on Oct. 21,” said Capt. John Coleman, spokesperson for Dayton Police Department.
The driver of the at-fault vehicle in the crash is Daniel Herrera, 32, of Dayton. He was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital Downtown where he was treated and released. The passenger of the same vehicle, Valerie Dawn Boone, 34, also was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital Downtown where she was treated and released. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
