Body pulled from Trinity River identified as Kenefick resident

Authorities have identified the body pulled from the Trinity River on Wednesday, Nov. 27, as Kevin Scott Sowell, 40, of Kenefick. The cause of death is still undetermined at this time pending the outcome of a toxicology report.

According to Inv. Mark Ellington with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the toxicology report could take between 4-6 weeks.

Sowell’s body was found by two boaters who found him floating in the Trinity River in the Kenefick Plaza area.

“The two guys were riding along in a boat. One glanced over and noticed something unusual. They turned the boat around to go see what it was and found the body,” Ellington said. “When they realized it was a body, they called us.”

An autopsy on Sowell’s body was performed on Monday at the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Beaumont.
