Liberty man killed in auto-pedestrian accident

A 54-year-old man trying to cross US 90 at Bowie Street in Liberty was struck and killed Wednesday night around 6:20 p.m.

According to Lt. Chip Fairchild, spokesperson for Liberty Police Department, the deceased man, John Scott Hill, was killed on impact. As he crossed the eastbound lanes of traffic, he avoided one oncoming car but was struck by a second vehicle following it. Fairchild said Hill might not have seen the second car because of the glare of headlights from the first vehicle.

Hill’s body is being transported to Beaumont for autopsy, which may determine if he was impaired or had medical issues.

Fairchild said the drivers of the two vehicles stopped after the accident. Charges are not expected to be filed against either driver.

According to Fairchild, Hill lived in Liberty but was originally from the east Houston area.
