A Liberty County family has the overwhelming task of laying to rest two loved ones after they died just days apart from COVID-19.
Derrick Wallace, son of Rev. Jerrol and Glenda Wallace of Moss Hill, died Aug. 9 after a short battle with the dreaded virus. His wife and childhood sweetheart, Jessica, daughter of Lesley and Tammie Rogers of Hull, and Herbert Brackin of Thicket, died on Thursday, Aug. 19.
The couple fell in love as teenagers while attending Moss Hill United Pentecostal Church where Derrick’s parents were pastors at the time. Derrick was a talented singer, though he shunned the spotlight, preferring to sing at church services.
The couple lived in Hardin County. Derrick was a pharmacy manager for Market Basket and Jessica was a loving and devoted mother to their 19-year-old daughter, Madison.
“There was only him for her and her for him. A true love story,” family members posted on Facebook. “There are no words created that could describe how much we will miss them both. We could never thank you enough for all your prayers and encouraging words and messages. They have meant so much and kept us strong.”
Funeral arrangements for the couple are pending.

Excuse me, Derrick was fully vaccinated as am I. I agree that everyone needs to be vaccinated but please don’t assume accusations. These were beautiful christian people. They are now with there heavenly father. Peace be with us all 🙏🙏.

They were fully vaccinated and STILL died of Cc-19 , very sad- and what does that say about the safety of this human experimental inoculation?

The vaccine didn’t kill this couple. Covid did. Just as it has thousands of others. Vaccines are not an experiment, we have been taking them and pumping them into our children for a hundred years. How is it that THOUSANDS of unvaccinated people die from this, there are WAAAAAY less vaccinated people hospitalized with Covid than there are unvaccinated people, and somehow you jump all over the miniscule examples of vaccinated people who died as your proof that the vaccine isn’t safe?? How does that make any sense? Vaccines have NEVER claimed full immunity, nor has it ever been guaranteed you won’t still die if you contract a life-threatening virus. It’s the RISK of contracting it or dying that becomes greatly diminished by getting a vaccine. And there is nothing to debate about that. Where do you get your information? What do you know about public health and/or science and the history of science and the impact the discovery of vaccines made on public health? People seem to be so quick to jump on board with ANYTHING that seems to support their own narrative, regardless of any actual facts and regardless of the credentials (or lack thereof) of their source of that information. Just because you read it on the internet doesn’t make it true. Just because you want it to be true doesn’t make it true. Just because it fits your narrative and makes you feel “right” about something, doesn’t make it true. What does it say about Vaccines that the MAJORITY of the people hospitalized with Covid and the MAJORITY of people dying from Covid are unvaccinated? Have you taken the time to ask THAT question?

How do you know? Were you there? Hearsay doesn’t count. UNVACCINATED people are the ONLY ones that are dying. So OBVIOUSLY they weren’t. Good grief.
You are vaccinated for the flu every year and you still get the flu. No vaccine is 100% effective. I would rather have the vaccine and hope that it works for me than not have it at all. Having NO protection at all just doesn’t make common sense!

So sorry for this families loss! They looked like a very loving couple! They look like they loved each other and loved being together! I can see in their eyes and on their faces that they loved the lord! They will be missed for sure but they we can rest assured that they are no longer in any pain and they are with the lord right now! No pains no worries!
This is so so that y’all are using this a platform for your political views and worrying about vaccinations. Neither are appropriate right now and you should all be ashamed. How about just simply keeping this family in your thoughts and prayers.

I knew this talent kiddo when he was a child he Father Pastored me through some rough time this church family meant a lot to me and there loss is great and will never forget them but remember God has a purpose for all of our lives Pastors Bro and Sis Wallace keep looking to the God of our Salvation Jesus Christ who is the Author and Finisher of our Faith My Prayers are with you all

So, so tragic. God bless the surviving family and extended family of the obviously beloved couple. Prayers for them and us all, these are clearly dangerous times, more so than 2020 it appears.
It is not political to remember masks help prevent spread and infection from both COVID-19 and the flu. Keep calm, pray, and stay masked.
Terri, I lost my brother on August 9th – he was fully vaccinated too. I know your pain and loss. I prayer for God’s comfort for you and the families and I know, as Christians, they are in the loving arms of our Lord and savior.
