Evelyn Norene Kennedy

Evelyn Norene Kennedy, 91, of Baytown, Texas, affectionately known by many as “Granny”, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 25, 1930, in Angelina County, Texas, to the late Vardie B. and Elizabeth “Allie” Tatum Grimes.

Granny met and married the love of her life, Raymond Lee Kennedy, at the young age of seventeen. The young couple were passionate about music, Raymond was a talented musician and Granny enjoyed writing songs and poems.

Although Granny could be headstrong, she was also a loving, caring and nurturing woman. She was quirky, spunky and always full of life. Granny enjoyed being the center of attention and her primary goal in life was to live to see a hundred. She pursued many interests, some of which included writing, journaling and traveling. Granny and her husband were avid travelers who visited almost all of the fifty states. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Granny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-one years, Raymond Lee Kennedy; her children Beverly Norene Kennedy, Donald Ray Kennedy, and Katy Charmaine Kennedy; her grandson Scottie Ray Kennedy; and her five siblings. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her granddaughter Kimberly Kennedy of Baytown; her great-grandchildren Cody Kennedy and wife Pernell, Jared Kennedy and wife Shawna, and Dylan Kennedy and wife Salina; her great-great-granddaughters Skylar and Sawyer Kennedy. She is also survived by her son Ronald Kennedy and wife Deborah of Baytown; her granddaughters Christina and Nicole Kennedy; her great-grandchildren Britanee Corry and husband Taylor, Ciara Morris and Darron Morris; her great-great-grandsons Teagan and Tye Corry; her numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Cody Kennedy, Jared Kennedy, Dylan Kennedy, Sean McDonald, Allen Yarbrough, and Corey Sollock.

Friends are invited to visit with the family starting at 1pm, on Sunday, October 31, 2021, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will follow at 2pm, in the chapel of the funeral home, with Chaplain Elizabeth Henson, officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
