Fatal collision involving two commercial vehicles shuts down FM 1960

A deadly crash involving two commercial vehicles occurred Wednesday morning, May 28, at the intersection of FM 1960 and CR 608, prompting a swift emergency response from Dayton police, EMS, and fire personnel.

At approximately 10:58 a.m., authorities arrived on scene to find a catastrophic head-on collision between an 18-wheeler with a cargo trailer and a commercial roll-off truck.

According to initial reports, the 18-wheeler had been traveling westbound on FM 1960 when the eastbound roll-off truck lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 63-year-old Lawrence Al James of Houston, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver and passenger of the roll-off truck, identified as 53-year-old Gloria Braxton and 53-year-old Oscar Gonzalez-Enrique, respectively, both of Houston, were also injured. They were taken to Kingwood Hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while officials cleared the wreckage and conducted an on-site investigation.

  1. I’ve seen so many fatalities on 1960 and hwy 105 from Beaumont to Montgomery in Jefferson and Hardin counties through Montgomery county westward to city of Montgomery than any other locations in the Houston metro area and suburbs…1960 from Dayton to Lake Sam Houston should be widened to four lanes minimum with shoulders on both sides…this will save many lives.

  3. Omg, I went to Kashmere High School with AL. He was a Gentleman and a Scholar. Al was always in good spirits with a positive attitude and a Huge Smile. Al was the type of person whenever you saw him coming a smile would come on your face. This type of tragedy is always hard to take because it’s unexpected.
