Gunmen rob Stripes in Dayton

Three masked men brandishing weapons robbed the Dayton Stripes store, 811 US 90 West, in the early morning hours Thursday.

The robbery was reported to police around 2:30 a.m., according to Dayton Police Chief Rob Vine. The men reportedly held the store clerks at gunpoint while demanding cash. They made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and several cartons of cigarettes, the chief said.

The three suspects reportedly fled the scene in a light-colored SUV similar to an early 2000s model of a Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer. The rear passenger tire may have had a tire rim different than the other tires on the vehicle.

The gunmen are described as either white or Hispanic males. One was carrying a black rifle and wearing a gray hoodie and a mask. The second suspect was carrying a black handgun and wearing a yellow or blue long-sleeved shirt with a blue logo on the back, a backpack and a camo mask. The third suspect was carrying a pistol and wearing a black hoodie and mask.

“Our detectives worked the case most of the day and made some progress,” Vine said.

Anyone with information about the case should call Dayton Police Department at 936-258-7621.
