Want to help fire departments? Aug. 3 is water and snack donation day for Liberty County agencies

The Liberty County Firefighters Association has selected Aug. 3 as a drinking water/Gatorade collection day for local fire departments.

Most of the fire departments in the county will have personnel standing by from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day to accept the much-needed donations, which can include non-perishable snacks such as crackers, peanuts or on-the-go food items that can be stored in the firetrucks.

The fire departments depend on local support to make ends meet financially, and the donation of water/Gatorade/snacks is an easy way for residents to show their support.

“Most departments should have personnel on hand this day to accept the donations we well as to help unload,” said Craig Powell, president of the firefighters association and chief of Hardin Volunteer Fire Department.

If no fire department member is at the station, Powell suggests leaving the items at the door of the station where they can be collected by members later.
