Early voting in Liberty County kicked off to a strong start with 2,965 out of 52,290 registered voters already casting their ballots within the first week. By 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, the total had grown to 3,391 voters.

Liberty County Clerk Lee Chambers said that the heaviest turnout last week was in Cleveland, with Dayton coming in second and Liberty in third.

“We are at 6.5 percent of registered voters right now. That doesn’t count absentee ballots. I am hoping we reach 12-14 percent by the end of this week. I am hoping to get close to 30 percent of all registered voters by the end of Election Day, March 5, but we won’t get it. I would love to see people get out and vote because it’s an important election,” Chambers said.

Technically, there are two separate elections taking place – the Democratic Primary and the Republican Primary. There are no local candidates this year on the Democratic Primary with the exception of county chair; however, there are candidates for state and federal offices, including president, Texas Supreme Court seats and State Court of Criminal Appeals. The Democratic Primary sample ballot can be found here:

The Republican Primary Ballot has nearly all of the countywide races, including the races for district attorney, county tax assessor-collector and Pct. 5 constable. The Republican Primary sample ballot can be found here:
