Cleveland ISD celebrated a significant moment on Monday morning, March 4, with the grand opening of its new mural. Distinguished city and school officials, along with leaders from local organizations, attended the grand opening celebration.
For many attendees, the mural evoked a wave of nostalgia as they strolled through the extensive mural hallway and spotted familiar faces of friends and family whose photos are incorporated in the mural.
The artwork serves as the final touch of the recently unveiled Cleveland ISD administration building, a project that received the stamp of approval from voters in a 2019 bond election.
The administration building is just one of several projects financed by the bond, including the new Santa Fe Elementary School, Santa Fe Middle School, Cleveland High School baseball and softball complex, and the revamped Ninth Grade campus, formerly known as the Northside Elementary Campus. A new Northside Elementary Campus, located on FM 2025, was built through a previous bond passed by voters.
ICI Construction spearheaded the construction of the new administration building, while the design was envisioned by Huckabee Architecture, with project management entrusted to LAN.
At the event, Superintendent Stephen McCanless took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the guests, emphasizing the connection between the school district and the community. He attributed the district’s ongoing success to the collaborative efforts of Cleveland ISD and its Board of Trustees, Cleveland ISD administrators and staff, the City of Cleveland, the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, and the Cleveland Rotary Club.

McCanless also explained that the opening of the new administration office allowed the District to repurpose the previous administration building, located near the Southside Elementary Campus. The old building is now being used by special education offices.
In addition to training facilities and an expanded boardroom, the new administration office is big enough to allow for more administrative departments to be under one roof. This, in turn, frees up campus space previously used by those departments.
