Skeletal remains found in ditch in North Liberty County

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains that were found along CR 2132 in north Liberty County on Friday, March 22.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Friday afternoon, March 22, after two passersby stumbled upon skeletal remains in a ditch just south of Rye in north Liberty County.

Capt. David Meyers, spokesperson for the LCSO, confirmed that the human remains will undergo DNA testing in an effort to establish their identity.

Capt. Meyers expressed concern that the proximity of the discovery to the Rye-Romayor area raises the possibility that the remains could belong to Sheryl Siddall, a 57-year-old woman who went missing from her home on CR 2859 last September.

According to Meyers, the skeletal remains will be transported to the medical examiner’s office in Beaumont for further examination.

The discovery unfolded as the two individuals were attempting to capture two stray dogs near the roadway. As they were doing so, they spotted the remains on the south side of the roadway, in close vicinity to a culvert beneath the road. After calling 911 to report their findings, the passersby waited on the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
