Joyce H Badgett

Joyce H Badgett, 93, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Liberty, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 7, 1931, in Huffman, Texas, to the late Mattie Della Tabor Harris and Victor Harris, Sr.

Joyce’s educational journey began at Crosby High School, and after her family relocated, she graduated as valedictorian from Blessing High School in Blessing, Texas. She was deeply devoted to her faith and the Lord, being a former member of the First Baptist Church in Crosby. Joyce was instrumental in founding the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union), starting the first girls’ auxiliary, and serving as a faithful Sunday school teacher for many years. She continued her devotion at the First Baptist Church in Dayton, where she remained active as a Sunday school teacher, member of the bereavement committee, and participant in Joy (Just Over Youth) activities.

Joyce was known for her sweetness and gentleness. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her holiday gatherings were legendary, always hosted with extra warmth and care by Joyce and her husband, Pat. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and cooking. Joyce was renowned for her mastery of chicken, dumplings, and pecan pies, cherished dishes eagerly anticipated by all each year.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, Patrick Henry Badgett Jr.; and her siblings Della Cordelia Harris Ewell, Melvina Louise Harris Landolt, Violet V. Harris Edwards, Kenneth Dale Harris, Sr., and Victor Harris, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia June Ressler and husband Donald “Rusty” of Dayton, and Matt Badgett and wife Theresa of Dayton; her grandchildren Robert Ryan Ressler and wife Brooke, Richard Ray Ressler and wife Laura, Randall Ross Ressler and wife Susan, Jonathan Matthew Badgett and wife Laura, and Bethany Theresa Credeur and husband Cory; her 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 PM until 8 PM on Monday, March 25, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main St. in Dayton. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 11 AM at Sterling Funeral Home, with Pastor Howie Howeth officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.

Honoring Joyce as pallbearers will be Robert Ryan Ressler, Richard Ray Ressler, Randall Ross Ressler, Jonathan Matthew Badgett, Cory Credeur, David Landolt, Ryan Ressler, and Luke Ressler.
