Update: The inmate, John Robert McComb IV, died Friday night around 6:30 p.m. from his injuries.
An inmate in the Liberty County Jail is in critical condition following a suicide attempt Thursday afternoon, March 28, authorities say.
The male inmate, in jail on a parole violation, was found unresponsive in his jail cell Thursday afternoon. He reportedly had wrapped bedsheets around his neck and attempted suicide by hanging.
He was transported by ambulance to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center and is being airlifted to a Houston-area trauma center. According to Capt. David Meyers, a spokesperson for Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate is in critical condition.
The Texas Rangers and the Sheriff’s Office are conducting parallel investigations into the suicide attempt.
The man’s next of kin have been notified. He is identified as John Robert McComb IV, who is in custody on a parole hold related to an aggravated sexual assault case, according to Capt. Meyers.
Isn’t it a big coincidence that both the men who were falsely accused of sexual assault by the same girl both of them hung themselves come on what are the chances of that? All I know is if you end up in liberty county jail you better pray you make it out alive
Just heard the other day that 17 liberty county TX police were fired. Working without license. They have my husband in there right now under wrong name and no bond for over 5 months now. My husband had a capius warrant and has had court happen twice without him being present . How is that legal. Thought with a capius warrant you have to stand in front of judge . Also how can you not be at court to see or hear for yourself.. Ludicrous.. Liberty county law been watching too much Yellowstone and let that crap get to their head where they think they are above law and do whatever the hell they want.
