William Robert Downs

William Robert Downs, 74, of Wallisville, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, after bravely battling cancer. He was born on July 24, 1949, in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the son of the late Lloyd Downs and Margaret Downs Dearman.

Will dedicated many years to Brown and Root Construction, where he excelled as a sandblaster and painter. Known for his boundless creativity and skilled hands, he could build anything he imagined. His tenacity, inherited from his mother, and versatility earned him the reputation of a jack of all trades.

Outside work, Will enjoyed fishing, automotive tinkering, and guitar playing. He cherished moments spent by the water, under the hood of a car, or strumming melodies on his guitar. Will was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margaret; his siblings Dale Dearman, Jimmy Downs, and Ann Ojeda; his stepson Sonny Britton; his nephew Bobby Dearman; and his late wife Madeline Britton Downs. Left to honor his memory are his sister Mary McCartney and husband Benny; his stepdaughters Tammy Duhon and husband Raymond and Dannette Sirmons and husband Elbert; his best friend Jerry Frazier; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends.

Will’s spirit will be forever remembered as the funny, loving man who touched the lives of all who knew him.

Will’s memory will be cherished by all, touched by his warmth and humor.
