Dayton PD responds to questions about fatal auto-pedestrian accident

Dayton Police Department has issued a short statement regarding a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that took place Monday evening, March 8, on FM 1409 south of Dayton. The department has received criticism for officers dropping off the victim at a convenience store hours before the fatal accident.

The statement reads: “On April 8, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the Dayton Police Department encountered a 56-year-old white male, later identified as Scott Lee Holladay, walking on FM 1409. Officers observed that Mr. Holladay was walking with a limp and stopped to check on his welfare. Mr. Holiday appeared to be coherent, of sound mind, and not a danger to himself or anyone else.”

Holladay reportedly told officers that he was traveling to see a friend who lives along FM 1409.

“Officers attempted to give Mr. Holladay a courtesy ride to his friend’s home but while en route they were advised that he was not welcomed at that residence. Officers attempted multiple times to provide Mr. Holladay with a ride to the police department or another location at which time Mr. Holladay refused the ride.”

Mr. Holladay reportedly exited the officer’s vehicle at a convenience store in Liberty County off of FM 1409 at his request. Unfortunately, a short time later, he was struck by a vehicle on FM 1409 where he was pronounced deceased on scene.

  1. Well if he was not welcome to a resident tells me he was problems. More than likely didn’t have a job, mooching off the government.

    • The man obviously needed help of some kind no matter if he was “mooching” off the government or not. But it is extremely hard to help someone when they will not accept help. At that point it’s time to pray for that individual.

    • We were the people to call 911 and first on scene the cops where very sloppy on this case. They didn’t even take our statements or ask our names. It was a sad thing to see and we had to ask them to cover the body. They deserve to be investigated for the whole situation. I’m so sorry for yalls loss. God bless u and your family
