Chambers County deputies responded to a call for assistance late last night, at approximately 10 p.m., after a fisherman found himself seeking refuge in a tree at Bird Rookery Lake.

According to reports, the man had been pursued up the tree by an alligator while fishing, prompting a friend to urgently seek help once the fisherman reached the safety of the tree.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division quickly located the trapped man on the southeast corner of the Trinity River within the US Corp of Engineers Property. The successful rescue operation concluded without any injuries reported.

In light of this incident, Sheriff Brian Hawthorne emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant as the weather continues to warm up, reminding both citizens and visitors that local wildlife, including alligators, snakes, and other potentially dangerous animals, are becoming increasingly active.

Sheriff Hawthorne advised exercising caution, using common sense, and respecting the wildlife. Additionally, he encouraged community members to direct any inquiries, concerns, or emergency situations to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office by calling 409-267-2500.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Chambers County residents and guests,” stated Sheriff Hawthorne.

  1. Alligator chased him up a tree, that’s too funny. I suspect the consumption of adult beverages had a lot to do with what he thought he say, lol.
