In response to the recent flooding, Cleveland Independent School District (CISD) has initiated a donation drive to support students and families who have been impacted.
The District is reaching out to citizens and community members to contribute clothing, shoes, socks, toiletries, personal hygiene items, cleaning products, and more.
“We really need household cleaning supplies. The people who can return home will need cleaning supplies to get their lives back in order,” said Superintendent Stephen McCanless.
The District prefers that donated items be new or gently-used. Some victims have lost everything as their homes have been submerged to the rooftops.
Donated items will be distributed at each CISD campus and at the Central Office starting from Monday, May 6. The District aims to collect donations throughout the week, with drop-off points open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All contributions will directly benefit families in need, providing essential support during this challenging time.
Here are other ways that Cleveland ISD is looking to assist the flood-affected students:
Bus tags – A new one will be issued at no charge
Damaged library books, school items – No charge
Graduating seniors losses – Replace for free caps/gowns
Prom wear – Provide them with donated clothes
Showers and baths – After school hours only, flood-affected students can shower at Santa Fe Middle School and Cleveland Middle School. Cleveland ISD will provide staff to monitor and assist this sensitive operation, which will likely be monitored by the District’s police department.
Washing clothes – Dr. Hodge and Dr. Sanford are checking with TIDE and Matthew 25 ministries to located mobile laundry mat services. If they are able to achieve this, more information will be sent out to affected families.
