Recently elected Plum Grove City Council members were officially sworn into their positions on Monday evening, May 13. Given the flood damage to Plum Grove City Hall, the decision was made to relocate the monthly City Council meeting to the Plum Grove Volunteer Fire Department at 7733 FM 1010.
The election saw former councilman Froy Ortiz emerge victorious in the race for City Council Position 2, defeating former councilman Rodney Walker by a majority of 21 votes. Meanwhile, Diana Chunn, a former city councilwoman, secured success in the election for City Council Position 4, triumphing over former mayor and councilwoman, Lee Ann Penton-Walker, by 17 votes.
Mayor Mary Arrendell ran unopposed and garnered a unanimous vote of confidence.
Despite the election being canvassed, tensions arose as Penton-Walker and Walker voted against the swearing-in of Ortiz and Chunn. Penton-Walker has been vehemently opposed to the May 4 election taking place during the recent flooding events.
The husband-and-wife duo’s decision to vote against the election results being canvassed left the council divided, with Councilwoman Danielle Enloe and Councilwoman Deborah Bell in favor of the new members’ induction. This resulted in a tied vote, so it was ultimately up to Mayor Arrendell to break the deadlock and officiate the swearing-in ceremony.
Both Penton-Walker and Walker requested to be excused from the meeting, adding to the drama surrounding the proceedings.
Additionally, the city council approved the construction of a new Dollar General store at 7297 Plum Grove Road.

Penton- walkers are bad Medicine for any community and the people spoke up with vote and canned them.
Hmmm, gotta wonder whose money is lining your pockets Wayne. :-\
Sad day for Plum Grove. Doclefino proved what crooks that Mayor and council are. I heard Walker’s Michael Berry interview and she spoke truth to the Colony Ridge issues. It’s obvious the flooding and closing election sites on Election Day impacted the election.
Sorry, but colony ridge and plum Grove have had major problems since day 1. Too many relatives involved.
All the way to the State of Texas Governor’s Office my friend, the money goes all the way to Gregg Abbott! Just saying. :-\
Wayne, sounds like you are a big part of the problem.
Judging from some of his past replies, he’s a criminal sympathizer and keeps his head buried deep in the sand.
So how many votes did Mary Arrendell get? Far as I know, not a single resident of the City of Plum Grove has ever voted for her for mayor. Given that she resigned in disgrace previously, I’m curious who pulled how many strings to get her back into the mayor’s seat? smh! :-\
