Winford O’Neal Pate, Sr., of Crosby, Texas, passed away on June 6, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on March 27, 1939, in Huffman, Texas, he was the son of the late Nelson and Dora Pate. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Edward Dale Ellis, and grandson, John Winford Ellis.
Winford married his beloved wife, Peggy Adams, in 1958, and together, they were blessed with four children: Micheal (Roxy) Pate Sr., Winford “Bubba” (Angie) Pate Jr., Trudy (Ted) Woods and Mitchell (Stephanie) Pate; eleven grandchildren: Brandi (Jeff), Krystle (Mike), Jennifer (Jacob), Micheal Jr., Alicia (Nick), Shane, Jessica, Erica (Clayton), Amanda (Charles), John-deceased (Emily) and Austin; seventeen great-grandchildren: Bailey, Kolby, Caleb, Mason, Brayden, Colton, Lauren, Kaden, Kailey, Harper, Luke, Elizabeth, Tyler, Bradlynn, Colton, Madison, and Charlie; along with numerous other family members and friends.
Winford was a devoted husband and father; his family was the cornerstone of his life. An avid reader and movie lover of old westerns; Winford, being a jack-of-all-trades, enjoyed nature. He loved the mountains, hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, coaching kids, watching his grandkid’s sports games, good ol’ BBQs, and gatherings with family and friends. Winford cherished time spent teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren about the great outdoors.
Winford O’Neal Pate will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. His stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on June 10, 2024 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Church services to honor Winford’s life will take place on June 11, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby at 2:00 PM.
Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Micheal Pate Jr., Jacob Wagner, Jeff Harvey, Mike Folse, Shane Pate, Clayton Stokes, Austin Woods and Charles Woods.
