Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on June 20, 2024, the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with TEXSAR (Texas Search and Rescue) personnel to develop a plan to search for Elizabeth Nivans, who had gone missing from her residence at the Houston East RV Park.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division spent several days examining digital forensic evidence and surveillance video to narrow down Nivans’ last known location, which was determined to be the 19500 block of Old Needlepoint Road. Using this data, TEXSAR personnel developed a search area based on their expertise in missing person trends.
Chambers County detectives and deputies dedicated hours to searching the area on foot, with ATVs, and using aerial drones. TEXSAR augmented the search effort with additional personnel, K-9 cadaver dogs, aerial drones, and forensic digital analysis.

Tragically, TEXSAR personnel and Sheriff’s Deputies discovered the body of Elizabeth Nivans in the targeted search area on Thursday, June 20. Justice of the Peace Larry Cryer responded to the scene and has ordered an autopsy to be performed. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Elizabeth Nivans. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office expresses gratitude to TEXSAR for their professionalism, dedication to service, and the generous donation of their time, resources, and expertise in helping to locate Elizabeth and bring answers to her family.
