Chambers County continues to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. Below are updates and information regarding current events:
- Electricity – Chambers County Officials remain in constant contact with both CenterPoint and Entergy, advocating for Chambers County residents and requesting frequent updates on progress made. Both providers have brought in contractors and additional resources and assure us that they are working as quickly (and safely) as possible to restore power. As of 8 a.m. this morning, current outage totals are: Entergy – 370; CenterPoint – 2,755.
- Cooling Centers – There are currently three cooling centers available for residents who need a place to cool off and charge electronics.
- Juanita Hargraves Memorial Branch Library (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- Anahuac Masonic Lodge (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- Sam and Carmena Goss Memorial Branch Library (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- *A note: usage of these facilities has been low, with only two residents taking advantage of the AC at the Masonic Lodge yesterday and three additional residents stopping by to grab a bottle of water.
- Citizen’s Collection Stations (box sites) and the Landfill are open for normal hours of operation depending on electricity (Double Bayou, Oak Island, Smith Point and Wallisville locations have been without power and unable to operate). There is currently no trailer length restriction at box sites for residents hauling disaster-related tree or shrub debris. For hours of operation and locations, please visit the Chambers County Solid Waste webpage: https://www.chamberscountytx.gov/278/Solid-Waste
- Citizens are encouraged to report damages to their property. This will help Chambers County officials determine the extent of destruction and provide the foundation for funding and aid determinations by the State and Federal government. Damages can be reports at https://damage.tdem.texas.gov/
- Disaster Assessment Teams are in Chambers County. These teams are made up of TDEM, AgriLife Extension and Texas Forrest Service employees. All surveyors will have official identification badges and property owners should not hesitate to ask for proof of identification.
- FEMA individual assistance is not currently available. If it becomes available, we will update you. If you want to monitor the availability of assistance, please visit FEMA’s website at: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/
Chambers County Emergency Services staff continue to respond to citizens’ needs as they become aware of them.
