Elsie Rae Pryor Haney

Elsie Rae Pryor Haney, aged 92, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was born on March 13, 1932, to William Fletcher “Boss” Pryor and Tilda Ford Pryor in Maydelle, Texas. She was the third of eleven children.

A few years after marrying in 1948, she relocated to Liberty, Texas, where for some time was a homemaker and later owned and operated her own business as a successful hairdresser.

Later she began working in many capacities with Walmart where she touched many people with her warmth and cheerful smile. After many years, she moved to Jacksonville, Texas, near the area of her roots, ultimately retiring from Walmart. Her children were very important to her, but she did find time for painting, quilting, and reading in her spare time.

She is preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, two sons, Allen Dale Hammons and Steven David Hammons; and her granddaughter, Deanna Hammons.

She is survived by her brother, Earl Pryor, and sister, Edith Appelt; son, Thomas Lee Hammons and wife Chandra; her daughters, Regina Reed and Marla Cook; her grandsons, Travis Daniel Reed and Zane Craig Cook; granddaughters Tracy Jackson and husband James, Heather Bishop and husband, Mike, Kristy Reed and fiancé Lacy; her great-grandchildren, Cole, Kade, and Kylee Bishop, Stephanie, Samantha, Allyson, and Emily Jackson, Kali and Kimberley Davie, Kassidy DeBarge and husband Chris; her great-great grandchildren, Kyler, Koen, Knoah, and Jasper Bishop and Sienna DeBarge. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Elsie’s family would like to thank Harbor Hospice staff for their excellent care.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk, Texas.
