Mary Ann Higgins

Mary Ann Higgins, age 90, of Devers, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Dayton, Texas. She was born on May 26, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Andrew and Elizabeth Kovacs Herchek.

Mary was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Devers. Her warm smile and compassionate nature touched the hearts of many. In her early years, her role as a hotel manager was not just a job but a platform to extend her exceptional hospitality to all. Mary’s talent for crocheting was not just a hobby but a way to express her love and generosity, as she shared her beautiful creations with others and donated to her church.

A woman of deep faith, Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She relished Friday nights playing dominoes with her church friends, where her infectious laughter and cheerful demeanor made her a cherished companion. Her involvement in the women’s group and Bible study reflected her desire to grow spiritually alongside her church family.

Mary was a gentle soul who embodied kindness and grace in all her interactions. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and her quiet strength inspired all who knew her.

Mary’s love for her family was as deep as her faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Allen Higgins; her children, Sharon Lyons and Johnny Higgins; and her sisters, Margaret Herchek and Elizabeth Ann Fedor. But she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Her children, Richard Higgins, Elizabeth “Rose” Rich, Kathleen Higgins and David Higgins; her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends will forever cherish her memory.

It was Mary’s wish to be cremated and laid to rest with her husband at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, a final testament to the enduring love and devotion she held for her family. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and love will continue to inspire all who are blessed to know her.
