The Liberty County District Attorney’s Office, led by District Attorney Jennifer L. Bergman, is announcing the launch of the first-ever Liberty County Citizen Prosecutor Academy.
This innovative program is designed to offer residents an in-depth look at the daily operations and responsibilities of the District Attorney’s Office, providing a unique opportunity to learn directly from the prosecutors who work to maintain community safety.
In response to growing public interest in understanding the intricacies of the criminal justice system, the Citizen Prosecutor Academy aims to offer participants a comprehensive, real-life perspective on prosecution and its vital role in upholding justice.
The program will cover a wide range of topics, including the criminal justice process, the anatomy of a jury trial, crimes against children, murder cases, public integrity issues, and more.
The nine-week program is scheduled to begin on Sept. 3, 2024, and will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dayton Police Department. Participants must be 18 years or older to apply, complete an application, and gain approval to attend.
Applications are due by Aug. 23, 2024, so interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly to secure their spot. For more information, call the DA’s office at 936-336-4609 or stop by the courthouse office at 1923 Sam Houston St., Liberty.

WOW! In liberty county??? They should call it the Al Capone Academy!!
What is the criteria a person needs to gain approval of their application?
Bloviating at it’s best.
Can you apply if you are a convicted felon.
lol, what a stupid thing. Focus on doing the job within the justice system, clear some cases, and don’t waste time “teaching citizen prosecutors” or “prosecutor wannabes.”
Like in the above comment, it sounds like al Capone leading the cub scouts!
WOW, with some of these comments we can really see the intelligence of people. I think this is a great idea. Thank you for all you do to make Liberty County a better place to live!
