A 19-year-old man from Hull, Texas – Dalton Kirby- was fortunate to escape with minor injuries after a harrowing incident early Sunday morning, Aug. 18.
Around 2 a.m., Kirby and a friend were walking northbound along FM 770, heading back home after a trip to a nearby convenience store for snacks. As they walked in front of the C Hill Propane business, a speeding truck grazed Kirby, knocking him off balance but thankfully not causing more severe harm.
The truck, which failed to stop or render aid, continued on its way. Kirby was taken to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
The collision caused the truck’s mirror to detach, providing a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the vehicle in question is believed to be a black or dark gray Chevy or GMC dually pickup truck, believed to be 2020-2024 model. It is reported to have a lightbar on top and is now missing the passenger side mirror.
DPS is urging anyone who may have information about the vehicle or the driver to come forward. Tips can be reported to the Liberty County DPS Office at 936-391-3500.
