Liberty-Dayton RMC enhancing ER services with new partnership with ACPHealth

Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center has announced a significant change in its emergency department management, with ACPHealth now taking the reins. The company’s founder, CEO, and president, Dr. Andy Wilson, introduced the new team during a town hall meeting on Aug. 16 at the Liberty Center in Liberty, Texas.

Dr. Wilson shared that the team of doctors assigned to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center brings a wealth of experience, with a combined 187 years in emergency medicine.

“They were built for you,” Wilson emphasized. “Every doctor who came here knew what they were getting into, and they are excited to do it. They each have an average of 12 and a half years of ER experience. Something unique about this group is that 80 percent of them have not only been great emergency physicians but also leaders in their specialty—medical directors, chief residents—these are the people driving emergency medicine forward.”

Addressing why this highly skilled team chose to come to Liberty, Texas, Dr. Wilson explained, “The truth is they were exhausted with corporate healthcare. Rural healthcare offers them an opportunity to work on a small, focused team in a community that appreciates what they do, and they love it. They absolutely love it. So, you are getting rock stars in this area.”

Dr. Wilson highlighted the distinction between the level of care patients will receive at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center compared to larger hospitals.

“If you go to a level one trauma center like Memorial Hermann or Parkland, can that hospital make the claim that every time a doctor walks through the door, you will be seen by a physician who is board-certified and fully trained in that specialty? Not a chance. But here, every time you walk into the ER, you’re seeing those doctors—board-certified and fully trained,” he said.

Wilson also noted that the new ER management is a “tectonic shift” for the community, marking a significant improvement in the quality of emergency care available. According to CDC data, about 90 percent of patients who visit an emergency department are fully cared for and discharged at home. With the right training, nearly all of these cases can be handled at Liberty-Dayton’s ER, reducing the need for transfers and ensuring comprehensive care right in the community.

While the hospital will continue to transfer the small percentage of patients requiring highly specialized care like heart bypass or neurosurgery, Dr. Wilson assured the community that the ER is equipped to handle most emergencies with the same level of care as any major trauma center.

“When you walk in the doors (of a level one trauma center), the docs that are supervising all the people that you see in the level one trauma center are the docs that you now are seeing in Liberty, Texas,” he said. “So that’s a very unique thing.”

Wilson also emphasized that the new team of doctors will provide round-the-clock coverage at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center. The physicians will rotate to ensure every shift is covered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without any gaps in coverage. This commitment to continuous care means that the community will have access to experienced, board-certified emergency physicians at any time, day or night.

LDRMC CEO Rhonda Campbell, who began her journey at the hospital 27 years ago as a nurse, expressed her deep commitment to the community during the town hall meeting.

“Nothing means more than being able to serve this community that is so close to my heart,” Campbell said. “We have worked so hard over the last two years, going back and forth with ACP, to bring in a higher caliber of emergency room physicians in order to give our community and our citizens the best possible care that we can. We would not have been able to achieve this without our wonderful board of directors.”
