The Liberty County Commissioners Court has officially approved a $4.677 million contract with White Construction to bring the long-awaited Northwest Annex project to life.

The new annex, designed by Burns Architecture, will be a 6,800-square-foot facility located in the rapidly growing Colony Ridge communities south of Plum Grove. The annex will house offices for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Pct. 6 Constable’s Office, and the Permits Department, in order to address the expanding administrative needs of the county.

Initially projected to cost $3.5 million, the project’s budget has risen to $4.677 million due to inflation and the rising cost of building materials. The project will be funded through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Despite these challenges, Commissioners Court has moved forward with the project in recognition of the critical need for the new annex as Liberty County continues to experience significant growth.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Oct. 7, 2024, with a ceremonial groundbreaking event set for Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. The event will take place at the project site on CR 3549, adjacent to the Santa Fe Administration and Activities Building and near Cottonwood Elementary School. The approximately two-acre site was donated to the county by Colony Ridge developers.

“This is the first step in better serving the northwest section of Liberty County,” said County Judge Jay Knight. “We look forward to getting this project completed and opening the doors to the public. The new annex will be a great addition to the community.”

The Northwest Annex will be the fourth of its kind in Liberty County, joining existing facilities in Cleveland, Liberty, and Dayton. As the county prepares for continued growth, the annex will play a crucial role in ensuring that essential services are readily available to the community.

Last time I was there, it looked like the day after welfare checks at the grocery store.
The staff had to break out a picture flip book since no one spoke English.
Then some low IQ mud grunt was taking the vision test, and he just kind of grunted like a cave man. They passed him.
I thought you had to be able to comprehend traffic signs to have a license?
