George Edward “Eddie” Meade, 80, of Dayton, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born on July 23, 1944, in Leonardtown, Maryland, to the late George Willard and Lillian Sylvania Carter Meade.
Eddie was a man of many passions and talents. A classic car enthusiast, he delighted in hosting and attending car shows, where he could share his love for vintage automobiles with fellow aficionados. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as the former owner and operator of Eddie’s Drive In, a beloved burger joint in Vian, Oklahoma, where he served up delicious meals and memories for over 20 years.
A master carpenter, Eddie took immense pride in working with his hands, creating beautiful pieces that displayed his skill and dedication. He was also an avid outdoors person, finding joy tending to his yard, especially mowing, and working on old cars. Eddie was known to unwind with a good crossword or word search, catch his daily dose of Fox News, and shoot a game of pool with friends.
Those who knew Eddie remember him as ornery yet laid back, a man of few words who spoke volumes through his actions. A dedicated businessperson, he was also a devoted family man who cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 54 years, Verlita Mae Lincoln Meade. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter Kinsey Windham and her husband Eric of Dayton; his grandchildren Victoria Blackbird and Atly Blackbird of Dayton; his great-granddaughter Lyla; his siblings Nanny Louise Biscoe, David Richard Meade, and Barbara Jean Roth; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Eddie’s legacy of hard work, love for family, and passion for life will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Honoring the family by serving as honorary pallbearers will be Justin Roth and Ryan Roth.
