Dixie Loraine Adams

Dixie Loraine Adams, 96, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, in Liberty, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Dixie was born on June 26, 1928, in Timpson, Texas, to the late Bostic Raymond and Willie Zephyra Francis Dunaway. She graduated from Timpson High School in 1945 and worked as a health assistant for a medical firm, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Dixie was a social butterfly, known for her vibrant personality and her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. She lived life to the fullest, always ready for a new adventure, whether it was fishing, gambling, or simply enjoying the company of her loved ones. Her playful spirit and ‘crazy antics’ made her beloved by her grandchildren’s friends and endeared her to all who knew her. Dixie’s fun-loving nature and her genuine care for others made her a joy to be around; she always had a smile on her face and was quick to give to those in need.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 35 years, Edward Frank Adams, Jr.; her sons, John Edward Adams, Sr., and Jeffery Adams; her grandson, Matthew Wade Adams; and her siblings, SSGT Austin Ernest Dunaway, Buena Lamerle Walker, and Chester M. Dunaway.

She leaves behind her son, James “Jim” Wade Adams and his wife Karol of Dayton; her grandchildren, Lisa Ann Davis and her husband Trey; James Edward Adams and his wife Stacy; Amanda Lynn Jenkins and her husband Jeremy; John Edward Adams, Jr.; Michael Ryan Adams; and Christopher Eberling Adams. She is also survived by her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
