Alton Lamar Richards, Jr., of Tarkington, passed away on Oct. 11, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on Sept. 9, 1951, to Lamar and Judy Richards in Liberty, Texas. He was a 1970 graduate of Cleveland High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lamar University and went on to spend 25 years in the oil and gas industry.
Alton was known for his love of the outdoors, mentoring youth groups at church, and coaching sports. Many priceless memories were made with his lifelong friends in the woods hunting squirrels, deer, and ducks. He always said he was born 100 years too late. Some of his favorite times were spent with his kids and grandkids teaching them to love the outdoors and appreciate nature.
Alton is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dyane, daughter Sarah Sellers (Aaron), son Austin Richards, granddaughter, Anderson Sellers, grandsons Hunter Sellers and Ashton Richards, sisters, Lynada Martin (Andy) and Julie Ford (Darrell), along with a host of loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Judy Richards and his sister, Kay Howton.
Alton will be missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
