Work is steadily progressing on the FM 787 bridge over the Trinity River near Romayor in north Liberty County, with contractors making significant headway on both the west and east sides of the project, according to the latest update from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
In September, crews demolished and cleaned up the west side of FM 787, while on the east side, they removed dirt in preparation for placing new sheet piling.
By Oct. 2, all the existing sheet piling on the east side was removed, and installation of new sheet piling began on the west side. These sheet pile walls, which serve as retaining walls, are crucial for holding back water or other fill materials.

As of the week of Oct. 7, the installation of sheet piling on the west side of the bridge was nearly complete. On the east side, workers were building drill shaft cages and installing the sheet pile wall, continuing the progress toward bridge stabilization.
Earlier this month, District Engineer Martin Gonzalez, P.E., and TxDOT staff attended a second town hall meeting, the latest at Dolen Baptist Church, to provide the community with updates on the project. Gonzalez encouraged residents to stay informed by signing up for TxDOT’s monthly newsletter.
