Jewel Deen Curry

Jewel Deen Curry, 92, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct. 20, 2024. Born at home in Hardin County to parents Gilbert R. Flowers and Irene J. Flowers. Deen spent her early years in Saratoga, Texas, where she attended elementary school with classmate George Jones. Following graduation, she worked at the courthouse in Kountze, TX. She later met and married her husband, Floyd R. Curry. They soon welcomed their first son, Keith. Floyd’s work took them to several states before the young family settled in Dayton when their second son, Scott, was born. 

 Deen loved animals and had several dogs, cats, and a baby goat during her lifetime. She enjoyed growing plants and appreciated spending time in nature. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, camping, fishing, and collecting hand-blown glass animals. In her active years, she was a great support to her family and friends and a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a much-loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd R. Curry; parents, Gilbert R. Flowers and Irene J. Flowers; and sister Rosalie Youngblood McCombs. She is survived by her sons, Keith R. Curry & Donna Curry, Scott T. Curry, all of Dayton; three grandchildren, James and Jessica McBride, Christopher Curry, and Sierra K. Curry; five great-grandchildren including twins, Jaelynn and Jacelynn McBride, Morgan Gay, Gabriela Casas, and Krysta Curry. Also surviving are nieces, Carmen Pratka and Carol Kolarik and their families. 

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Dayton, Texas, courtesy of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
