The Hardin Elementary School’s Hornet Art Club has given the community a special gift—a Little Free Library, which was officially opened Monday, Nov. 18, and stocked with books ready to be enjoyed.
This unique “take a book, share a book” free book exchange is part of the global movement inspired by Little Free Library, offering a space where community members can connect through a shared love of reading.
The library was designed and painted by 65 talented members of the Hornet Art Club during their club meetings, with each student adding their artistic flair to the project. The result is a colorful, personalized wooden box filled with books that embody the spirit of collaboration and creativity.

According to Little Free Library, these book exchanges are more than just libraries—they’re “mini-town squares” that bring communities together. They create a space where real people share their favorite books with their neighbors, fostering a sense of connection and belonging.
The HES Hornet Art Club invites community members to visit the Little Free Library between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. or after 5 p.m. on school days, as well as anytime on weekends or during school breaks. To maintain the welcoming spirit of the library, visitors are encouraged to donate books appropriate for young adults and younger readers.

What a wonderful idea. I plan to visit soon.
