Glenda Jean Burch Wallace was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Joe B and Argie Florence Harvey Burch. She departed for her new home, Dec. 22, 2024, surrounded by her family singing songs of Heaven and Praise to God.
She attended most of her High School years in Winfield, La., where she was elected as Miss WHS, FFA Sweetheart and Best Personality. She moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, in 1963 and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. This is where she met the love of her life, Jerrol. They married Dec. 27, 1963. They had three children, Rilea, Tamara and Derrick, seven grandchildren and seven great-grand children.
She was a loving, wonderful, hands-on, fully committed mother and grandmother. She loved, taught, served, and gave her all to her family. She served alongside her husband in ministry for 45 years – first as the Dean of Ladies at Texas Bible College, then as pastor’s wife at Heaven View Tabernacle in Winston Salem, N.C., Llano UPC in Llano, Texas, and at Moss Hill UPC, Moss Hill, Texas, as the second of three pastors ever to serve at the church. They served for 31 years of the 93 years that the church has been established.
She was faithful to her God, her family and her calling – pastor’s wife. She was very musically talented at singing, playing the organ or piano and arranging musical programs. She presented many beautiful musicals and could teach a choir to sing beautifully and with anointing.
She was very accomplished at all the things required of a pastor’s wife but, the thing she did the best was love. She loved her “children” in the Lord. Hours were spent praying for and encouraging many of them in their walk with the Lord and in life. Many times, she was called upon to stand in the gap when Pastor Wallace was ill or hospitalized. She never wavered. It was her calling too and she had made a commitment to her husband and God. What a team they made!
She is survived by her daughters Rilea Wallace and Tamara Mahaney, and husband, Rev. Michael Mahaney; grandchildren Lathan Treadway, Hunter Mahaney, wife, Jessa, Kyler Mahaney, Mykal Blakeney, husband, Zachery, and Madison Wallace; great grandchildren, Lathan Treadway Jr., Gunnarr Treadway, Charlie Mahaney, Magnolia Mahaney, Wallace Mahaney, Sunday Mahaney and Baby Blakeney.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerrol, son, Derrick Wallace and his wife, Jessica Wallace, granddaughters, Ashlyn Treadway and Brea Treadway, parents, Joe and Argie Burch, brother, Charles Burch and wife, Nelda, and sister, Janie Dean and husband, Robert Earl.
