Ima Ruth Jenkins Wright

Ima Ruth Jenkins Wright passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on May 29, 1931, in Oakhurst, Texas, to John Thomas Jenkins and Claytie Louisa Gardner Jenkins. She was youngest of three daughters. Most of her childhood was spent in Trinity, Texas.

Her junior year in high school, the family moved to Cleveland, Texas, where she graduated from Cleveland High School in 1948 and attended Wharton Junior College for one year. She met the love of her life, Floyd Carter Wright, in Cleveland and was married on July 1, 1950. They moved to Houston, Texas where she devoted her time to caring for her two children and her husband. She also worked for many years as a part time bookkeeper. In 1978, she and Floyd moved to Katy, Texas.

Ima Ruth was a woman with many talents. She was a gifted artist, accomplished seamstress, and a wonderful cook. She loved setting a beautiful table for family and friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her treasures.

She was a long time and devoted member of First Baptist Spring Branch and served her Lord as a Sunday School teacher and many other positions throughout the years. She was a member of Pine Village Garden Club and Daughters of American Revolution.

Ima is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Floyd Carter Wright and parents, John Thomas Jenkins and Claytie Louisa Gardner Jenkins, and her two sisters, Louise Sellars and Merle Jean Thornton. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Kubin (Randy) of Crosby, Texas, son, Bill Wright (Laurel Tate) of Katy, Texas, five granddaughters and thirteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Daniela Vancia and the staff at Houston Extended Care in Kingwood, Texas for the loving care given to Ima.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m., at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens in Cleveland.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
