Liberty County’s election website, https://www.co.liberty.tx.us/, has been recognized as one of the best in Texas by the League of Women Voters.

Out of the state’s 254 counties, Liberty County earned a remarkable score of 101, tying with several other counties and outperformed by only seven. This recognition underscores the county’s dedication to ensuring voter access and transparency.

County Clerk Lee Chambers credited the recognition to the collaborative efforts of her team during the 2024 general election, which she described as the largest election in Liberty County’s history.

“I am so proud of my staff and the poll workers who stepped up and served the county and the state in making this election seamless and relatively error-free,” said Chambers. “It wasn’t easy, but they did a great job, and I am so proud of everyone. We managed daily reports, and uploading the information online, and restructured the website with particular focus on this election. We are happy that the League of Women Voters recognized our efforts.”

The election administration team—Derian Sones, Wendell Hubert and Anna Turney—played a crucial role in the success of the website, along with John McCulloch, who maintained the site.

“It was a collaborative effort between these employees and me to ensure that all of the data was there,” Chambers added.

The League of Women Voters evaluated county election websites across Texas based on 24 criteria, including accessibility, security, and availability of critical voter resources. Liberty County’s website excelled in 22 of these categories, offering key features such as early voting details, sample ballots, voter registration tools, and vote-by-mail tracking.

Areas for improvement included expanding voter information to additional languages beyond Spanish and transitioning the website to a .gov domain.

The recognition reflects Liberty County’s efforts to prioritize voter education and engagement, particularly during a record-breaking election. For more information on Liberty County’s election website and resources, visit https://www.co.liberty.tx.us/.
