With freezing temperatures expected to sweep across Southeast Texas in the coming days, the Liberty County Office of Emergency Management has announced the opening of three warming centers to provide a safe and warm refuge for residents during the cold snap.
The warming centers are located in Cleveland, Liberty, and Dayton.
Calvary Baptist Church is located at 816 N. Blair Ave, Cleveland, TX 77327. For more information, contact 281-593-1751 or email CBC.Cleveland@yahoo.com.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5621, at 1520 N. Main Street, Liberty, TX 77575, will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Jan. 21-22, 2025. For assistance, call 936-253-7044. This warming center will not be open overnight as the VFW does not have the staff for overnight guests.
The lobby of the Dayton Police Department, located at 2004 N. Cleveland Street, Dayton, TX 77535, will be open 24 hours a day for the duration of the freeze. For more information, contact 936-258-7621.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these facilities if they need a warm and safe place to stay during the freezing weather. Please bring along your comfort items, such as pillows and blankets. You should also bring along your medications, snacks and drinks, but be responsible for taking care of these items while you are staying at a warming center.
Pets are generally not permitted at these centers, so alternate arrangements should be made for animals.
The Liberty County Office of Emergency Management advises everyone to take precautions during the cold weather by protecting exposed pipes, bringing outdoor pets inside, and dressing in warm layers if venturing outdoors.
