The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday night, Feb. 24, 2025, at HCA Kingwood Hospital in Houston.
According to Chief Deputy Stanley Jolly, deputies from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Houston Police Department, responded to an “Assist the Officer” call at approximately 8:50 p.m. at the hospital’s South Tower.
Upon arrival, authorities learned that a shooting had taken place inside one of the hospital rooms. The involved deputy, who was assigned to guard an inmate receiving medical treatment, reported that the situation escalated when the inmate attempted to create a distraction before initiating a physical struggle. During the altercation, the inmate reportedly attempted to seize the deputy’s firearm.
“Fearing for his life, the deputy was forced to use deadly force to prevent the inmate from causing harm,” the statement read.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency medical personnel, the inmate succumbed to his injuries.
The incident is now under investigation by multiple agencies, including the Houston Police Department, the Texas Rangers, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the investigation will be conducted thoroughly to ensure transparency and accountability.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragic event,” the sheriff’s office stated. “We ask for patience and understanding as the investigation unfolds.”
