15-year-old girl wakes to find intruder in bedroom, Cleveland PD investigating

Cleveland Police Department is investigating a disturbing home intrusion that reportedly took place early Sunday morning, March 9, on Walton Heath Drive. Around 4:13 a.m., a 15-year-old girl and her mother called 911 after the girl awoke to find an unknown man standing in her bedroom, his gloved hand covering her mouth.

According to Capt. Scott Felts, a spokesperson for the department, the girl was startled awake from a deep sleep and was unable to provide a detailed description of the intruder due to the darkness of the room. As soon as she woke up, the man fled from her room and then out of the house.

Investigators found no signs of forced entry but noted that a window and the front door had been left unlocked. Authorities initially questioned whether the suspect could have been someone the girl knew, but her family reported that her boyfriend had visited earlier in the evening and left around 11 p.m.

Despite the unsettling nature of the break-in, there were no indications of theft, leaving the suspect’s intentions unclear. Surveillance footage from nearby homes captured an individual dressed in dark clothing walking through the neighborhood around the same time as the incident.

“We’re increasing patrols in the area and actively pursuing leads to identify this person,” said Felts. “We urge residents to lock their doors and windows and report anything unusual. If something seems off, don’t hesitate to call us—we’re here to keep the community safe.”

The girl sustained a mild abrasion on her lip but was otherwise unharmed. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Cleveland Police Department.
