Fire alert: Major wildfire that originated in SJC crosses into Montgomery County

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer, a massive wildfire in San Jacinto County has rapidly spread to 1,300 acres, with only 10 percent of the fire contained.

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has issued urgent warnings for residents in specific areas as the fire continues to threaten nearby communities.

According to a Facebook post made by the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, residents south and west of Peach Creek in Montgomery County need to remain on high alert.

Should the fire cross the creek, it could further endanger local neighborhoods. Authorities are concerned about the areas along Doru Drive and Big Buck Drive, where voluntary evacuations have been requested.

Montgomery County residents living on Lee Turner Road and any connected roads are being instructed to evacuate immediately due to the imminent wildfire threat.

Calvary Baptist Church, located on North Blair in Cleveland, is opening up as a shelter for fire victims at 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 19.
