JLA Realty in Dayton is once again opening its doors to help animals in need. The second annual Pet Drive and Adoption Day is set for Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside the JLA office at 302 N. Church St. The event aims to find loving homes for shelter animals, collect much-needed pet supplies, and raise awareness about the struggles of homeless dogs and cats.
To accommodate the event, Church Street will be closed to traffic from Cook Street to Depot Street, allowing vendors to set up and welcome attendees. Parking will be available along Depot, Cook, and other nearby streets.
JLA Realty hopes to build on the success of last year’s event, which resulted in six pet adoptions. Organizers are optimistic for an even greater turnout this year.
“We have a big issue in our community with stray animals,” said Tammy Pratka with JLA Realty. “This is something that is always on people’s hearts.”
Throughout the event, local shelters and rescue groups will be on-site with adoptable dogs and cats, hoping to connect them with their forever families.
Leading up to Adoption Day, JLA Realty is collecting pet supplies to support local shelters. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the JLA office.
Requested donation items include:
- Pet food (dog and cat)
- Bedding, blankets, and pet beds
- Treats and toys
- Cat litter and training pads
- Puppy and kitten milk and bottles
- Bleach and detergent for cleaning pet bedding
Last year’s event resulted in trailers full of donated pet supplies for shelters, and Pratka hopes to set a new record this year.
In addition to pet adoptions and the supply drive, the event will offer a free photo booth where attendees can capture special moments with their pets. Vendors will be set up along Church Street, selling pet supplies and other goods.
“We will have everything up and down Church Street like we did in the past,” Pratka said. “We will have backdrops for pet pictures, and vendors selling pet supplies.”
For those bringing their furry companions, organizers remind pet owners to keep their animals on a leash throughout the event. Poop bags will be available to help maintain a clean and pet-friendly space.
The event is being chaired by Alisha Cunningham. For more information, contact her at 346-201-0521.
