A five-hour standoff near Dayton ended peacefully Wednesday night, April 2, with the arrest of Anthony Wayne Savage, 45, of Dayton, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Capt. David Meyers.

Savage is charged with Deadly Conduct, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The incident began around 6:30 p.m. at a residence off FM 1409 near County Road 443. Meyers said Savage was allegedly involved in an earlier incident at another property where shots were fired. He then reportedly fled to the FM 1409 home and barricaded himself inside.

As a precaution, authorities closed FM 1409 in both directions while Special Response Teams from Liberty and Chambers counties worked to resolve the situation. Negotiators spent several hours attempting to coax Savage from the home.

Shortly after 11 p.m., Savage surrendered without further incident. No injuries were reported among law enforcement personnel.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is now executing a search warrant at the residence.

“We want to thank the Chambers County Special Response Team for their assistance,” said Meyers.
