Liberty County to mark National Day of Prayer with two observances on May 1

Chaplain Lance Blackwell holds up one of the wooden crosses that he distributes in the Cleveland area. The crosses serve as a reminder of the sacrifice that was made by Jesus Christ for humanity's remission of sins.

Liberty County residents are invited to unite in prayer and reflection during two local observances for the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1. Both events will begin at noon, offering an opportunity for community members to come together in faith.

In Liberty, the gathering will take place on the east side steps of the Liberty County Courthouse. Clergy from across the county will lead prayers for the nation, local leadership, and the community. Judge Jay Knight is expected to attend and take part in the event.

The Liberty High School Choir, under the direction of Christie Bean, will provide music during the ceremony. A limited number of chairs will be available, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating for comfort.

For questions about the Liberty observance, contact Pastor George Finney, pastor of New Life Church in Kenefick, at 832-275-6026.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland, the second observance will be held at the Cleveland Civic Center, located at 210 Peach Ave.

According to City of Cleveland Chaplain Lance Blackwell, one of the event’s organizers, pastors from around the Greater Cleveland area have been invited to speak. The event is also expected to include Cleveland Mayor Danny Lee and other local officials.

For questions about this event, call the Cleveland Civic Center at 281-592-2395. Seating will be provided within the civic center.

These observances are part of the annual National Day of Prayer, a time-honored tradition that encourages Americans of all faiths to lift up the nation in unified prayer. All are welcome to attend and participate in this meaningful day.
