Hundreds come to Christ during Go Tell America crusade in Liberty

Evangelist Rick Gage leads a powerful moment of prayer with hundreds of students during Teen Night at the Go Tell America Crusade on Wednesday, April 16.

The spirit of revival swept through Liberty from April 13-16 as the Go Tell America crusade brought hundreds together for four powerful nights of worship, testimony, and life-changing decisions. Hosted just ahead of Good Friday and Easter, the crusade concluded on Wednesday with a high-energy teen night, wrapping up a week that left a profound spiritual mark on the community.

During the event, more than 720 people made commitments to Jesus Christ, including 382 accepting Christ for the first time and 192 rededicating their lives. It was a week of heartfelt worship, powerful preaching, and meaningful personal decisions that brought a renewed sense of hope and unity to the town.

Crusade chair and director of missions for Trinity River Baptist Association David Williams said it was an exciting week. He shared his enthusiasm about the future, saying the local faith community is looking forward to seeing some tremendous changes in the area’s communities, schools, homes, and churches.

“I am very excited about the possibilities,” he said.

A car give-away during Wednesday’s event was a means to encourage local middle schoolers and high schoolers to attend the revival at Liberty Memorial Stadium. The teens were also provided a free pizza dinner before the service. Leaders offered the pizza and car because they wanted as many youth as possible to attend so they could hear the gospel. Total attendance was more than 2,000, which included more than 500 students. Many of those students were among the 348 who responded to the altar call at the end of the service on Wednesday. Of those 348 making decisions, 205 accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Tyler Mitchell, 17, a junior at Hardin High School, had the winning ticket at the end of the evening.

“Winning a car was a great blessing to Tyler, but much better than that is the fact that earlier that evening Tyler had placed his faith in Jesus Christ,” said Williams. “He and more than 200 others won a much better prize than a car. They walked into that stadium separated from God, but when they left they were children of God with the guarantee of eternal life.”

Tyler Mitchell, winner of the car giveaway, celebrates a night of unforgettable blessings with Omar Cantu and David Williams after placing his faith in Christ earlier that evening.

Williams said the evening was the climax of a process that began more than a year ago when he first met Rick Gage at a meeting in Phoenix and they began to talk about building a local team of leaders who would host a Go Tell crusade in the Liberty-Dayton area. Since then, more than 500 local people have been involved at some level in planning and carrying out the crusade.

“As those of us who had spent the last year planning and working toward this event looked at the crowd of people who came forward to make spiritual decisions, we were able to see the actual fruit of our labors,” Williams said. “We are so thankful that the Lord allowed us to have a small part in the miraculous work He has done here in Liberty and the surrounding area. And we are anxious to help all those who made decisions continue their walk with the Lord.”

While the numbers are inspiring, local leaders are focused on what comes next. Accepting Christ was just the first step, and Williams emphasized that mentorship and discipleship are the next phase of the journey. As new believers begin to walk in their faith, pastors and spiritual leaders are stepping in to provide guidance, connection, and community.

“We are very excited to make contact with all of those who made a decision to accept Christ,” Williams said. “We want to help them take the next steps in their walk with Christ.”

Pastors and members of participating churches are in the process now of contacting those who made decisions. But, Williams urged, “if you made a decision, don’t wait for someone to contact you. Find a church to attend this Sunday morning. It’s Easter, Resurrection Sunday, when we celebrate the fact that Jesus who died on the cross to pay for our sins, three days later arose from the dead to give us eternal life. Every follower of Jesus needs to be in a church this Sunday worshipping Him.”

Williams shared his gratitude for Liberty ISD for allowing the events to be held at the War Memorial Stadium on Grand Ave.

“One of the most encouraging things about this was finding people in the community who welcomed the idea of the crusade. We were having some trouble finding a venue because the timing was not right for some. When we went to Liberty ISD, administrators said not only could we do it, they wanted us to do it. They offered us the stadium without charge so long as we paid for the custodial and security fees. It’s my understanding some of the security and custodial people actually volunteered their services. They just wanted to be part of it, and we are grateful,” Williams said.

With Easter weekend approaching, Williams encouraged anyone who made a commitment during the crusade—and those still seeking—to find a church to attend. For many, this weekend will be their first time experiencing Easter with a renewed or brand-new faith, and local churches are preparing to welcome them with open arms.
