Tipton named lone finalist for Cleveland city manager post

The City of Cleveland has named Lee Tipton, a longtime law enforcement professional from Conroe, as the lone finalist for its city manager position. Tipton, who currently serves as deputy chief for the Conroe Police Department, will bring more than two decades of public service experience to the role.

Tipton has been with Conroe PD for the past 20 years and began his career in law enforcement at the Onalaska Police Department shortly after graduating from the law enforcement academy at Angelina College in Lufkin. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Public Administration, both from Tarleton State University.

“This is an incredible honor,” Tipton said of being selected as the finalist. “I’m looking forward to joining the Cleveland community in the coming weeks.”

While the Cleveland post marks Tipton’s first official position in city management, he emphasized that his leadership background has prepared him for the transition.

“I’ve spent years helping to manage employees and working directly with city budgets,” Tipton said. “In many cities, public safety budgets make up the largest portion of spending and involve the most employees. That experience translates well to city management.”

Tipton said he sees a bright future ahead for Cleveland and is excited to be part of it. He and his wife have already begun searching for a new home in the area as they plan their relocation.

“We believe Lee Tipton brings the right combination of experience and energy to lead Cleveland into its next chapter,” said Mayor Danny Lee.

Tipton’s appointment and contract are expected to be finalized in the coming days.
