Evelyn “Shorty” Beth Doucette Allen, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Liberty, Texas. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Evelyn lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose.
Born on August 31, 1930, in Batson, Texas, to the late Tom and Carmen Ratcliff Doucette, Evelyn was a proud lifelong resident of Liberty County. A graduate of Liberty High School’s Class of 1948, she remained deeply connected to her community throughout her life.
Evelyn was the heart of her family, always happiest when surrounded by loved ones. She had a deep love for camping and traveled to countless places, creating memories under the stars with those closest to her. Known for her vibrant personality, she truly never met a stranger. Her “happy-go-lucky” spirit and unfiltered honesty meant you always knew exactly where you stood with her—a quality that endeared her to many.
For over two decades, Evelyn selflessly gave her time as a hospice volunteer, bringing comfort and kindness to residents in local nursing homes. She also served her community as a clerk at the Liberty County Tax Office before her retirement. Evelyn was a longtime member of Heights Baptist Church in Liberty, Texas, where her faith was a guiding light.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Ercelle Fox, Bobbie Wiggins, Jerry Wiggins, Sue Heinze, and James Doucette; her beloved husband, Robert Walter “Bob” Allen, Jr.; and her son, Bruce Allen.
Evelyn leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by her children, Mary LaFleur and husband Michael, and Becki White and husband Tom; her grandsons, Brandon Allen, Brian Allen, and fiancé Kelsey Lejeune, and Kyle White; her great-grandson, Walker Allen; and her daughter-in-law, Alice Allen.
A private interment will be held at Cooke Memorial Cemetery, where Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her loved ones.
Her kindness, humor, and big heart will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
