Cleveland HS student charged in connection to shooting assault

Liberty County authorities have made a third arrest in connection with an aggravated assault that took place on April 23, 2025.

Gisel Gaytan, an 18-year-old Cleveland High School student, was arrested on April 24, 2025, in connection with the crime. Gaytan has been charged with First-Degree Felony Aggravated Assault for her role in the incident. She was taken to the Liberty County Jail and booked without incident, where she joins Angel Salgado and Tomas Huerta-Sanchez, who were previously arrested in connection with the same case.

The three suspects—Salgado, Huerta-Sanchez, and Gaytan—are currently being held in the Liberty County Jail on $1,000,000 bonds each. All three are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The victim, who was shot multiple times, remains in stable condition at the hospital. Investigators continue to gather evidence as the case unfolds.

The investigation began on April 22, 2025, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting and aggravated robbery in Liberty County. At approximately 9:46 a.m., law enforcement was called to a residence in the 600 block of CR 3416, where the male victim had been shot multiple times. Deputies learned that two males, dressed in all black and wearing face masks, fled the scene in a gray Nissan Altima.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to a nearby hospital, though his condition was not immediately known. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was dispatched to both the crime scene and the hospital to aid in the investigation. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert was issued, and deputies canvassed the area in search of the suspect vehicle.

Around two hours later, investigators observed a gray Nissan Altima matching the description of the suspect vehicle passing through the area. A traffic stop was conducted, and the vehicle was occupied by two Hispanic females and two Hispanic males. The vehicle was confirmed to be the same one seen leaving the scene of the shooting.

The two male occupants were detained, and the vehicle was processed at the Sheriff’s Office. After questioning, the Texas Rangers took over the investigation and charged both male suspects—Salgado and Huerta-Sanchez—with first-degree felony aggravated robbery. The third suspect, Gaytan, was later identified as the driver of the vehicle and arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to piece together the details of the crime.

  1. This is the type of beaner filth that is being thrown into our schools with YOUR kids that you are trying to raise with decency. Anchor babies shat out by wetbacks most likely. Isn’t the bond amount dependent on the flight risk? That must be why it’s rightfully so high this time.

Also it amazes me that these stories are published without the words “Colony Ridge” in the article- any reader unfamiliar with the area would have no idea- which it why it’s important to add that in the comments- so a Google search will bring up the results and let people see what a burden this slum really is.

It’s time for another ICE roundup out there- the beanoids are getting uppity again. Waiting on someone to call me racist and tell me how great the families out in the colonias are…

  2. Well that’s just more proof that we need to increase taxes very dramatically so we can build more and much bigger schools in order to properly educate all of our foreign neighbors who came here under the welcome arms of democrats. It’s the only solution my fellow citizens. So, let’s all vote yes for higher taxes in all of its many different beautiful forms. Yes Sir, more taxes on our legal citizens will fix this problem.

    • About 25 0r 35% don’t pay taxes now and most are white. High as $50,000 and that’s just one person.. Nothing is done except raise taxes so we can pay more to make up. But say there’s not enought money we need a bond.

  3. We need to send an Army infantry unit or the Marines in Colony Ridge to take back our County. I support military airstrikes or Colony Ridge..

  4. why do we have to blame the whole community for just a few bad apples i know several people that live out there and they are good folks not “beaners” this paper should not allow those types of comments.

    • “A few”. LOL- It’s more than “a few”. There is a definitive, undeniable pattern with the area crime.

And this paper absolutely should allow these types of comments- the benchmark of journalism and freedom of press is free speech. A good journalist will recognize this, and let public input stand, no matter how it might hurt your little feelings- otherwise we have censorship, just like the mainstream media has shoveled out for the last decade.

I commend this news outlet for letting these public opinion comments stand- the demographics of crime in the area are all verifiable- I’ll stop with the comments as soon as the disproportionately high amount of Mestizo crime stops being committed in the community that we used to be able to raise our kids in without worry.

      • Yes, you’re afforded free speech in America. No matter how inbred, trashy, meth-induced, or foolish your speech may be. Isn’t that right Sammy?

  5. well sammy im talking about the racist comments you are making about people you dont even know like blaming everybody that lives in big thicket or snake river for the crimes committed by a few meth headed “white” people nobody thinks that you do not have the right to comment on the high crime rate in santa fe but its the racist comments we can do without

      • Nahh it wouldn’t be hard. Every third kid is one. Don’t worry, the district just sends them to DAEP when caught to be with more of their customers.
