Great meals with an inviting view aren’t always easy to come by — but one Liberty restaurant is proving you can have both, right on the green at Liberty Municipal Golf Course.
Step inside Calhoun’s on the Green and you’ll find more than just a warm meal. A wall of windows reveals a serene view of the rolling fairways and a sparkling lake just beyond the clubhouse — the kind of setting that invites guests to linger long after the last bite.
Tucked into this picturesque corner of Liberty, the restaurant also offers a spacious meeting and banquet room that comfortably seats up to 50 guests. It’s an ideal spot for rehearsal dinners, baby showers, engagement parties, or just about any gathering — with no charge for the room itself, only the cost of the food.
Calhoun’s on the Green, the latest passion project from Dayton resident Rodney Calhoun, quietly opened five months ago inside the clubhouse and is quickly gaining a reputation as a must-try spot in town. While this is Rodney Calhoun’s first venture into the restaurant world, it’s far from his first time feeding a crowd.
He also owns and operates Calhoun’s Crawfish Company, which earned top honors in a KHOU News poll as the best crawfish around. Calhoun credits his crawfish success to a special blend of spices he created himself.
Born in Shreveport, La., and raised in Mont Belvieu, Texas, Calhoun carries a blend of cultures that’s easy to taste in his food. When asked whether he considers himself more Cajun or Texan, he laughed.

“The Cajuns say Shreveport doesn’t qualify as Cajun because it’s too far north,” he said, chuckling. “So I guess I’m somewhere in between.”
Now, with the addition of celebrated chef Jim Condra, Calhoun’s is elevating its menu even further. A culinary school graduate, Condra brings world-class training and experience to Liberty — including time spent working in France at a Michelin-starred restaurant. More recently, he’s been known for his work at La Costa Seafood Restaurant in Cleveland and the Hilltop Herb Farm at the Retreat at Artesian Lakes.
Condra’s arrival signals a new chapter for the restaurant — one built on flavor, experience, and a whole lot of bread pudding. Condra’s award-winning desserts include a decadent New Orleans-style version drizzled with warm Jack Daniel’s sauce, a white chocolate and strawberry indulgence, and an apple and walnut creation that tastes like something straight out of grandma’s kitchen, assuming your grandma is a fantastic baker.
But the menu doesn’t stop at dessert. Guests can dive into hearty bowls of gumbo, red beans and rice, creamy Cajun chicken pasta, sizzling seafood platters, and crispy gator bites. Southern staples like chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are also crowd-pleasers. For lighter fare, the restaurant serves grilled chicken salads and wraps. Other popular items include po-boys, fish tacos, and a full lineup of appetizers — from fried pickles and mushrooms to spicy jalapeño poppers.
And if you’re looking to relax after your round, Calhoun’s also features a full bar stocked with a wide variety of beer, wine, and specialty cocktails.
On Sundays, Calhoun’s on the Green offers an all-you-can-eat buffet with seafood and sides, and a full salad bar for just $16.99 per person. If you want to add boiled crawfish to your meal, it is an additional $6.99 per pound.

In addition to making culinary waves, Calhoun’s on the Green is now officially part of the business community as a new member of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, Calhoun’s on the Green, located at 100 Magnolia Ridge Drive, Liberty, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Calhoun said he hopes to expand the hours in the future, but doing so will require additional staff and — most importantly — more steady business.
Despite its elevated menu and scenic setting, Calhoun’s on the Green remains an affordable option for diners. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch after a round or planning a special gathering, the restaurant offers generous portions at reasonable prices.
“People just don’t always realize we’re here,” Calhoun said, noting the restaurant’s tucked-away location inside the golf course clubhouse. “We’ve got a great team and great food — now we just need folks to find us.”
